  1. THE HEART OF GOLDMOON - A black ink and black color pencil drawing on an 11 x 14 size coquille board. It appears in the paperback, "Dragonlance Tales, No.3."

I have always wanted to learn to dance, especially like Fred Astaire! but like so many other things I've always wanted to do, I never got around to it. Still, whenever I'm watching a Fred Astaire movie and he's doing one of his classic soft shoe dances, I'm off the couch trying to get my feet and toes to move like his. But, no chance.

And yet... I did manage to have my moment of glory as a dancer; I was at a wedding reception some years ago, dancing with my wife to a slow romantic song, which is the only kind of dancing I can do, and I must have had just enough to drink to loosen me up because I found myself smoothly moving one foot this way and the other one that way, swaying my body in rhythm to the music and extending my hand to my wife as I sailed smoothly around her. I wasn't even thinking about what I was doing, I was just dancing, and smiling and looking at my wife, and enjoying the moment.

And then, as we passed by a table of guests, some guy stands up and catches my eye and asks me, "Were you once a professional dancer?" And just like that, the magic was gone. I shook my head indicating, "no", moved closer to my wife and returned to dancing in my usual fashion.

I noticed a strange look come into my wife's eyes; as if she were asking, "who are you?" Well, for just a few brief moments in time, I was a dancer, I was Fred Astaire!
